July18: Day3. Aren’t people generous!
Had a late 7PM start, as had to reset website password to enable Diary entries from this mobile.
Saw the effectiveness of the GPS on my Memory Maps Ap that comes with the entire IGN 1:25,000 maps of France that I have loaded on my phone. Realised that I had camped at the bottom of a cliff, at the top of which was the GR34 walking route. So scrambled up and set off to cross a small stream separating two sides of a gully. Luckily at low tide, so not deep.
By 11AM had used the last of my water. Gone through 5l in 36 hours. Stopped at the first house I could find and was given 6.5l by Serge & Anne-Marie Moren, who very generously invited me in for lunch; took me shopping to Concave by car, then topped up the dog’s gel coats with water. This was one of those wonderful gifts of generosity to a stranger that recharge my faith in the human spirit. I recorded an audio interview with them, in my apalling French, which will go on the audio diary when I get to a Wi-Fi spot.
It was so hot, even with the cooling gel coats for the dogs, and also as my pack was now 7kg heavier with water and food, that we stopped in the shade of some cliffs and passed out for a couple of hours, before continuing in the cool of the evening to the municipal campsite at Concave. Aren’t showers wonderful! Ate the chicken, rice, milk and apple that I had bought earlier, so that will lightenable my pack! Also had bought a roll of foam insulation for under the tent, so a modicum of comfort returns!
Will add pictures when I find this elusive Wi-Fi spot!
