July20 The great dyke hike
A day for reflection on things uniquely French:
Toilets with a hole in the ground; Sat Navs for walkers say “take the first exit at the roundabout” means turn right; “tout a droit, tout a droit” means keep going straight and NOT keep turning right!
Terrain has changed from tree-lined paths to flat Dutch like monotony. Great for racing land yachts. When the sea goes out, it goes out for miles, which explains why there are great mussel beds here grown on stakes in the estuary sand. Am camped beside a Moule factory, where great WW2 landing craft with wheels trundle past on their way to the mussel beds.
