July23 Day8 The fellowship of Travellers
Having arrived late at the campsite in Avranche (about 8PM), a kind couple in a camper van gave me 2l of water for the dogs. This is the fellowship of travellers and is great. Just as yesterday I had stopped for coffee, when there was a cheery “Bonjour!”, and so I invited this cheery Belgian called Gerard, for coffee. The recording will be eventually on the audio diary for July23,once I work out how to download it to the website through this phone!).
Today I interviewed Jacqui, whom I met at the supermarket with his Guide Dog Laurel. I introduced him to Happy and Topsy and recorded an interview for the July23 audio diary, again to be downloaded later!
We were at rhe supermarket because I had not zeroed the small spring balance that I use for weighing tne dog’s food. So they had been getting really big helpings! But then when did a labrador complain about big helpings! I also needed a camping gas cannister for my stove. They had none. The lady in tourist information worked out on her computer that on foot it was 98k to the next major town on my route of Mortain-Bocage. So that is 5 good walking days away that I will need dog food for, AND the supermarket there has camping gas! (Probably not the type that I need with the screw thread). I may need to break into my emmergency 500g bag of rice, if I have the gas to cook it!
At about 5.30PM we will brave the heat and set off along the GR22, heading East in the direction of St. Brice. We will have to see how far we get!
