July28 Day 13 At last! Flat paths with a view!
Started off the day late at 8.30, in part because the weather forecast was suggesting not too hot: 21 or 22C.
HAve reached a woody section, which is wonderfully cool. First the Fort de Mortain, then Forêt de la Land Pourrie rise and finally, after a little lake and a great slab of rock with kids scrambling up it, onto the best bit of trail so far: the GRP of less crates de Mortinaise. Lovely flat forestry paths, set on the crest of the hill, with panoramic views.
A day of wildlife. While passing through the Forêt de la Land Pourrie, cane across a deer that followed us and was very used to human contact. It even tried to mount me from the rear whilst I was helping the dogs across a cattle grid! Then an electric blue kingfisher and a tiny chick with a loud voice, perfectly camouflaged against the leaves.
We ran out of gas today, so no hot drinks. Are camped at the western end of the HRP, so that tomorrow, start is downhill!
