Aug 4 Day20 The GR36
Dog sick in a tent is to be avoided.
Luckily, I got Topsy out in time! The bar/store that I had piled into at La Roche-Mobile (the first and only one), after a long trek to join the GR36, only sold Cat food. OK with Happy, but Topsy suffered. I am now getting very quick at un-zippering the inner and outer tents in record speed!
So we had a slow start at 8PM, and we suffered for it. It was 1.3PM when we collapsed into St. Céneri-le-Gérie. The tarmac was starting to melt on the road, aspp we had had 15k of unremitting black top. No paths.
Very pretty village with nice bridge over River Sarthe, which I swam/washed ad simultaneously laundered in! Collapsed on the first available bar and had a beer. Only to find out that they had closed the kitchen! So had to go to another bar, have another beer, and ordered a cheese salad. I do feel deprived of vegetables. We left there at 4ish (leaving their leads behind) and sat by the bridge and river until it became cooler at 6PM. Have walked 0.5k south along the river and have camped here for the evening. This leaves a steep ascent to the top of the Sarthe Valley for after breakfast. I am hoping that the views will be the justifyable reason for the cruelty inflicted today!
