Aug 19 Day35 South of Saumur
Was up at dawn and provided room service with a coffee to Rosemary, who was struggling with the power of speach!
The GR36 took me back to where we had eaten the previous night, to St Pierre’s Square, where insude the restaurant the back piece had oak beams 18 ins square and dated from the 13th century. Peeked ibto the church, which had a wonderful series of arches holding up the roof. Although left outside and told to stay, Happy wandered in down the isle, looking for me! The trial twisted up the hill to see the chateau, then down past an early walled castle and down to the river. There I met a man carrying a baguette, and ever mindful of my stomach, I asked him for djfections. So I headed over the bridge and took a GR variante to the boulangerie.
The river is very poluted with green algae here, so I have kept the dogs out. It was not till about 8k south that the river watet speed increased and I felt it was safe to drink it, AFTER blastong it with the Ultrapen fluorescent light, to kill off any bugs.
We collapsed in the heat if the day betwee 1- 4PM, then walked till 7.30. Ee are camped by a disused canal 2k south of Bézé and 15k south of Saumur.. The owls are out screaching and something crashed through the undergrowth. Either deer or wild pig!
