Aug 28 Thumder looming
As we sit in the tent, feeling hot, and the dogs pant (it was 32°C today), the met office are forecasting thundershowers until the morning. So I have checked that the tent is storm ready.
We followed the river Thouet south of Aurvault. Initially there was a great din, that had gone on all night, and there is some huge factory up on the hill that sound polutes the entire valley. In glacial times the river would have been huge, as the banks on either side are 100m talk and often 1k apart .
So we have zig-zzged from side to sise crossing more of these Roman crossings. Topsy wades across, so of course her little booties fill with water and need changing!
Met Nanette and Andre outsidw their cottage, (photo) who said that there were a lot of English locally. To emphasise the point, as I was rummaging in a dustbin in Gourgé, as one does, someone tapped ob the wondow. In my worst frenchI started to rxplsin that I was walking on the GR36 and …. at which point my apalling french accent was spotted.
” Are you English?” I was asked by the lady in the wibdow.
This turned out to be Lisa, who with Nevan owned the place They kindly took my rubbish which was the result of an indtant pig-out at the local supermarket of dogfood, milk, lager and chicken wrappings.
We walked on for an hour south and have cicered 17k. It is hot and sticky and Topsy is still panting at 11PM. The thunder is rolling in tbe distance and we wull have to see how the night progresses.
