Oct 2 Lac Salagou sighted!
I made a mistake leaving Bédereux, and took thr wrong trail. So we did 5k instead of 2k.
The climb up the hill to Carlencas seemed endless. The 12th century church tower of St. Martins loomed over the landscape here like St. Edward’s Tower does in Stow-on-the-Wold. A kind lady called Lucy gave me some matches, as I had poured water over mine. We were having a stilted conversation in poor French, when she said that she was English! So we were on a par in poor french!
Leaving the village, suddenly Lac Salagou appeared in the distance and it was a moment of joy to realuse that I had nearly achieved what I set out to do. But that is tomorrow’s tale.
Now the tent is up and hidden from “Le Mistral” which is whipping through the trees around us.
