Sept 29 GR77: Descent from Lac Vezules
Packed up just after dawn, as was down to 7% charge on the phone and back-ups all used
Was concerned that the GR7 had been re-routed, probably due to logging. So I was setting off blind. We wandered down the road in search of a “source” (spring) and suddenly heard the sound of running water coming from a building. It was ab old postal inn: with an over-friendly mastif!
Set off and luckily after 2k the GR7 aigns returned and we landed safely at Lac Vezules. Then started the GR77 and the hardest and most rewarding part of the trip so far.
Qe descended at almost 45°along steps cut in rock and sometimes with iron guide ropes. The river thundered beside us till we came to a waterfall with a large pool. I stripped off and had my first good wash in 4 days: clothes and all! Having been used to deserted walking routes, I had not allowed for a young lady hiker to appear whilst washing my hair in my altogether! Later had a swim in the waterfall pool.
Digs did really well on the steep descent as we crossed and re- crissed the river. A very dramatic path whixh at times clung to the cliff face with sizeable drops. To be reccommensed if yoy luke a challenging mountain path with stunning scenery. There was probably a drop of 350m in the first 0.5k, starting at 960m.
Walked on through the village of Langlade and on to Premian (6k it said: jolly long 6k!) Now camped in the Municipal camping with use of a kettle as my gas has run out! The Boulangerie here was OPEN and so stocked up: which included 2 cans of beer!
