July21-Day6 Sunset over Mt St Michelle
-
Watching the sun set over Mont St. Michelle, sat by my tent on a small bluff at Point de Roche Touring. The mosquitos obviously enjoy the view too and have come to join me. So I have joined the dogs in the tent and pushed Happy back onto HER side of the tent!
A long day. It rained at 7-8 AM, and had to dry the tent out later. It certainly brought the little white snails out, and I removed 4 from one boot alone! Only had enough dog food for today, so as France is likely to be ferméd tomorrow (Sunday), caught the bus and travelled 9k to Pontorson. Bought 2kf of dog food so feel safer now.
Returned and walked the 2k causeway to Mt.St.Michelle. On way back walked on the sandy isthmus which appears when the tide goes out. Topsy went for a paddle and nearly dissappear in quicksand! Had lunch in one of the restaurants off the tiny main street. Tried the local speciality of galette for the first and last time! A grey coloured pancake made from wholemeal flour and full of holes like a string vest. Satisfied a craving for fresh vegetables with the chef’s special salad.
Very hot till 5.30, when we left, in some trepidation, as I was carrying 4.5l of water and 2kg of dogfood! Continued walking along the boring old dyke, until we were rewarded with this camp spot up on the bluff, overlooking the Mont St. Michelle bay. A perfect way to end the day.
Then the gas ran out making my coffee!
