• 1973. USA & Canada (& Mexico for afternoon). Greyhound bus from Seattle, Washington, Key West, Phoenix, Mexico, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver Island, Jasper. Then hitched in single lift to Winnipeg, Canadian Pacific to Seattle.
• 1974. Greek Islands. Train to Athens (Greek Colonels regime overthrown. Airport closed). Island hopped: Naxos, Paros, Eos, Santorini (Thira), Alanissos.
• Iceland.  Dettifoss to the north coast. Vatnajokul trek
• Norway.  Heute Reute (mail boat) from Bergen to Tromso. Hitch-hike to Geilo. Trek across Hardanger Vida. Camp at Bessagen.
• Peddars Way in Norfolk
• France: West Normandy Coast GR223.
• Scotland, Okneys and Inner Hebredies by bycycle. Strat by train to Scrabster, travelling west (into prevailing wind) finishing in Oban, then Glasgow.

Ski-ing trips

• Avoriaz. First sk-ing holiday. 4 of us took it in turn to buy a single beer each night. Learned to ski on short ski-evolutif 120 skis. Brilliant.

• 1983 Nepal. Annapurna Circuit (200m), from Dumre, through Thorung La pass (5,416 m) to Pokhara. Ran out of water going over pass and suffered dehydration sickness. Have always carried masses of water since.
• 1989. Kashmir and Ladakh. Trans Greater Himalaya Expedition, starting in Dal Lake, Kashmir, to Phalgam and hired 2 porters and mules.  Crossed Boktol Pass (5,000m) into Ladakh in the Suru Valley. Caught bus at Pannikher to Kargil, then got off at Sonnamarg and headed north into mountains, meeting the 1989 Joint British/American Lhalung Expedition under Pete Hill camped in the hills. Later visited (and played at) the highest golf course in the world at Gulmarg (4510m). Before returning to Delhi, Aggra (Taj Mahal: Princess Di later sat on MY seat!).
• Equador; ascent of Cotapaxi untill I hit a crevass 3/4 way up; walking on the Inca trail, 7 days on a boat round the Galapagos.
• Chile. Circumnavigation of the Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Chile. The magnificent Towers of Paine, continuously shrouded in mist. Camped in 100kph winds with German friend.
• Canadian Rockies. Hiking below the Canadian Matterhorn, Mount Assinaboyne. Then hiked over glacier at back of Lake Louise.
• Corsica. Walked across the island on the GR20.
• France: Gorge de Verdon. Walked the GR4 route through this,
• France. Alpes Maritime on the GR.
• France. Various trips doing parts of the GR10 through the Pyrsnees (about one third, from Atlantic Coast).
• Greece: Dinghy sailing in Paxos
• Greece: Flotilla touring around Naxos, Ios, Paros, Alanissos.

• 1991. Honeymoon Tour to Seychelles (Ladikh: no beds: requisitioned by government). Then backpacking on the GR route in Reunion across the volcanos; then recovery on Mauritios, where it rained.
• Swiss alps around the Benedictine (liquer) monastery, with family and boyfriends.
• Pyranees and northern Spain
• Offa’s Dyke Walk with Surrey Hash House Harriers.
• Turkey: Instabbull and public bus trips to Troy.
• Majorica: late booking nightmare holiday to East Coast resort during Football World Cup!
